1. What is physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy is a healthcare practice that helps restore movement and function in individuals affected by injury, illness, or disability. It uses a range of techniques, including exercise, manual therapy, and education, to improve physical health and well-being.

2. What conditions can musculoskeletal physiotherapy treat?

Physiotherapy can treat a variety of conditions, including:

• Back and neck pain

• Sports injuries

• Arthritis

• Post-surgical recovery

• Joint and muscle problems

3. Do I need a referral to see a physiotherapist?

In most cases, you do not need a referral to see a physiotherapist. However, some insurance providers or healthcare systems may require one.

4. What happens during a physiotherapy session?

A typical session includes an initial assessment, where the physiotherapist evaluates your condition, discusses your goals, and creates a tailored treatment plan. The session may include exercises, hands-on techniques, and advice on self-management strategies.

5. How should I prepare my first physiotherapy appointment?

Please bring any relevant medical notes to your appointment. These might include; surgical notes, x-ray/ ultrasound scan/ MR scan results (written Radiologist report).

6. How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions varies depending on your condition, goals, and progress. Some issues may resolve in a few sessions, while others may require ongoing treatment.

7. Can I be referred on if appropriate?

Yes. if at any stage we feel you would benefit from an onward referral, we will write to your GP to discuss this. These onward referrals often include imaging/scans, to Orthopaedics, Podiatry, Neurology, Rheumatology. 

As highlighted above, if we felt you presented with a rare sinister pathology, we would immediately write you a referral letter for you to print and take to A&E.

8. Does physiotherapy hurt?

Physiotherapy is generally not painful, but some techniques, such as deep tissue work or certain exercises, may cause mild discomfort as your body adjusts. Your physiotherapist will work within your comfort levels.

9. Can physiotherapy help with chronic pain?

Yes, physiotherapy is an effective approach to managing chronic pain. It focuses on improving mobility, strength, and overall function, helping to reduce the impact of pain on daily life.

10. What should I wear to a physiotherapy session?

Wear comfortable clothing that allows easy movement, such as athletic wear. For specific treatments, you may need to expose the affected area (e.g., shorts for a knee injury).

11. Is physiotherapy covered by insurance?

Many insurance plans cover physiotherapy, but coverage may vary. Check with your provider to confirm what is included in your plan. We are covered by most Private Medical Insurers. Please contact us prior to your appointment to ensure we are listed with your insurer.

12. How do I book an appointment?

You can book an appointment by contacting our clinic directly via phone, email, or online booking. Our team will guide you through the process.

13. What happens if I need to cancel my appointment?

We kindly request 24 hours notice for cancellation in order for you to receive a full refund. To cancel your appointment, simply email info@myphysiohub.co.uk.

14. Is my data safe?

Of course. At PhysioHub, we are fully compliant with GDPR and Data Protection laws. Our sessions are held over zoom which is an encrypted video conferencing platform. Your assessment/treatment data is saved on our private practice management and exercise prescription software which strictly complies with GDPR.
